You know what I love about vegan food? The possibilities are totally endless!! I’m a strong believer that anything can be made vegan and taste just as good, if not better than the original. Example A. This vegan steak sandwich.

Vegan Steak Sandwich! This sandwich is packed with steak slices, sauté with onions, red bell pepper, and garlic, all topped with melty nacho cheese, and did I mention it's vegan!? #itdoesnttastelikechicken #veganrecipes #vegansandwich

This sandwich is packed with steak slices, sautéd onions, red bell pepper, and garlic, all topped with melty nacho cheese, and did I mention it was vegan!? Yeah, it’s a pretty mean sandwich that’s completely cruelty-free. 😉

To make these vegan steak sandwiches you will need to have the steaks and nacho cheese already prepared.

You can follow the recipe to make my Vegan Seitan Steaks here. To make two vegan steak sandwiches you will only need 1 steak, so you will have three remaining steaks. The steaks freeze beautifully so you can save the rest for more sandwiches or for another dish.

For the vegan cheese, I used my melty stretchy gooey vegan nacho cheese recipe. The recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups of cheese and I use about 1/2 cup in this vegan steak sandwich. You can enjoy the rest or the nacho cheese with tortilla chips, or use it in up another recipe. If you prefer you can use any vegan cheese you like.

When ready to prepare the sandwiches, in a large skillet or frying pan, melt the vegan butter over medium heat. When hot, add the onion, red bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté for 3 – 5 minutes until the vegetables soften. Push the veggies to the side of the pan and add the seitan steak slices and more butter if needed.

Fry the steak slices for about 5 minutes, stirring as needed until it’s browned. Mix the steak and onions mixture together, turn off the heat, and mix in the leftover steak marinade.

Prepare the sandwiches by dividing the steak and onion mixture onto the two buns and dollop the nacho cheese on top. Serve hot.

Bon appetegan!

Vegan Steak Sandwich

This sandwich is packed with steak slices, sauté with onions, red bell pepper, and garlic, all topped with melty nacho cheese, and did I mention it's vegan!?

  • 1 tablespoon vegan butter or oil ((plus more if needed))
  • 1/2 yellow onion, (thickly sliced)
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 Vegan Seitan Steak, (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons leftover steak marinade ((from the seitan steak above))
  • 1/2 cup Melty Stretchy Gooey Vegan Nacho Cheese ((or other vegan cheese if preferred))
  • 2 buns of choice, (sliced in half)
  1. In a large skillet or frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat. When hot, add the onion, red bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté for 3 – 5 minutes until the vegetables soften. Push the veggies to the side of the pan and add the seitan steak slices, adding more butter if needed. Fry the steak slices for about 5 minutes, stirring as needed until it's browned. Mix the steak and onions mixture together, turn off the heat, and mix in the leftover steak marinade.

  2. Prepare the sandwiches by dividing the steak and onion mixture onto the two buns and dollop the nacho cheese on top. Serve hot.

This recipe is enough to make 2 sandwiches, but feel free to double or triple it to make more!

These sandwiches are quick to make (about 15 minutes) assuming you have already prepared the steaks and cheese ahead of time. If you are preparing everything fresh, the seitan steaks take about 45 minutes and the nacho cheese takes about 15 minutes.
